Shaheen Afridi’s Fiery Spell Dismisses Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in Asia Cup Thriller

In a highly anticipated clash at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan locked horns in the Asia Cup 2023. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat on what seemed like a balanced pitch, aiming to gain an advantage in a potentially rain-affected encounter. He delivered a length ball around the off-stump, and with his signature swing, the ball nipped back in, leaving Rohit Sharma’s defense breached and clearing the off-stump. The stadium erupted with mixed emotions as the Indian skipper departed for just 11 runs after the resumption of play. 

Same old story for Virat Kohli 

Shaheen Afridi, however, wasn’t done yet. India’s batting maestro, Virat Kohli, walked in at a challenging moment, with India at 15 for 1. Kohli got off the mark with a boundary off Naseem Shah, but on the very next over, Shaheen Afridi struck again. In the seventh over, he bowled a short-of-a-length delivery outside off, tempting Kohli to play a shot. Unfortunately for Kohli and Indian fans, he could only manage an inside edge that crashed into the stumps.

Shaheen Afridi’s fiery spell had sent shockwaves through India’s top order, reminiscent of his brilliant performance against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup. While Pakistani fans rejoiced in Afridi’s brilliance, a somber silence enveloped the Indian fans in the stands.
