Samarawickrama gets involved in verbal duel with Shanto over Angelo Mathews’ timed out dismissal

The tempers flared on the field in the ongoing Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Match 38 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as several heated moments were witnessed during the game. After Angelo Mathews’ was adjudged out following an appeal by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan, the decision didn’t go down well with the entire Sri Lankan team who were left annoyed by the contentious call.

As a result, several heated face-offs were witnessed during the second innings of the game. One such moment was seen after the fall of the first wicket as Najmul Hossain Shanto walked out to the middle. Apparently, Shanto was the one who approached Shakib to appeal for the timed-out dismissal.

The Sri Lankan team remembered Shanto’s act when he came out to bat and welcomed him at the crease with a few ‘not so decent’ words. Sadeera Samarawickrama was even spotted walking up to the Bangladesh batter to have a few words. However, the duo was separated by the on-field umpire.

Samarawickrama’s words seemed to have charged up Shanto as he went on to play a magnificent knock of 90 (101) with the help of 12 boundaries. Shanto got involved in a massive 169-run stand for the third wicket with Shakib Al Hasan (82 off 65) as the duo helped Bangladesh to stabilize their innings after the two early blows.

Courtesy of their win, Bangladesh finally ended their six-match losing streak in the ongoing World Cup and tasted their second victory which took them to the seventh spot on the ODI World Cup 2023 Points Table.

Earlier in the first innings, Sri Lanka were all out for 279 in 49.3 overs as Charith Asalanka scored a magnificent hundred (108 off 105). Tanzim Hasan Sakib finished as the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he registered figures of 3/80 in ten overs.
