Robin Uthappa on Kohli’s Century and Team Victory Focus

In a gripping face off between top two teams in the rankings table, India and New Zealand locked horns with each other at the scenic Himachal Pradesh Association Stadium in Dharamshala. The Men in Blue posted a phenomenal win against New Zealand counting on the 2019’s revenge and its first win against the Kiwis since 2003. Though New Zealand produced a target of 274 for India, it could not restrict Rohit Sharma and Co. par the delivered target. While India struggled at certain moments in between the match, it was Virat Kohli who made it through and led the team’s pursuit to victory.
Brilliant knock by Kohli
Having played a beautiful knock against New Zealand, Virat Kohli’s 95 did it all for team India. His 95 runs off 104 deliveries included eight boundaries and two sixes in total. The 34-year old batter has continuously proved his potential and ability to play calmly and composingly at the time of pressure and that has made him win millions of hearts. Kohli is just one century away from breaking Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of 49 ODI centuries and if Kohli would have scored five extra runs yesterday, he would have definitely broken that milestone record. Well, former cricketers and fans believe that Kohli will surely achieve the extraordinary feat later in the tournament, if not now.
Uthappa heaps praise on Kohli
While speaking to Star Sports, the former Indian cricketer asserted that “I don’t think Kohli will be thinking too much about it. He will be happy that he was able to get the team over the line and ended up on the winning side. Records is something you look back on when you end your career. But I don’t think anyone in the team right now is thinking about it.”
Robin also took into consideration the efforts of Ravindra Jadeja who provided support to Kohli as an upper right hand during the run chase. He went on further to state that Kohli is the greatest ODI player taking into the fact that he is the leading run-getter with 354 runs ever since the tournament began.
