The final of the ongoing ODI World Cup was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Australia and India faced off as Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to field first.

Opting to bowl first on a dry pitch, Pat Cummins’ decision seemed risky as Indian captain Rohit Sharma aggressively led the team’s charge in the first powerplay, smashing four fours and three sixes. However, when Rohit tried to hit the ball for six in the tenth over, he was caught by Travis Head, ending his innings and silencing the vocal Ahemdabad crowd. Shreyas Iyer fell to Cummins’ brilliant bowling, putting India in a difficult position.

Australian bowlers bowled cleverly in the middle and towards the death and used their variation quite perfectly and bundled India out for just 240 which was always going to be a tough task for the Indian bowlers to defend with the expected due to come.

Chasing the target, Australia lost David Warner and Mitchel Marsh early in their chase. Warner was dismissed by Mohammad Shami who took the new ball instead of Mohammed Siraj while Marsh’s wicket was taken by Jasptit Bumrah. Steven Smith was also dismissed by Bumrah, leaving Australia struggling at 47 for 3 in seven overs. At that time, it looked like Indian bowlers were all set to create history. However, Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head showcased amazing resilience and steered the innings perfectly.

They took some time initially to see off the new ball and once they got their eyes in, they started playing attacking shots. Especially, Head looked like was batting on a different surface and was timing the ball brilliantly.  They both had a brilliant partnership for the fourth wicket, with Head scoring a century, ultimately taking the team home comfortably.

They both stitched 192 runs partnership for the fourth wicket and Australia won the game by six wickets. For India, Bumrah took one wicket while Shami got one.
