David Warner becomes the 3rd opener to post 18000 runs in International Cricket

In the 43rd ODI of the ongoing World Cup featuring Bangladesh and Australia, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, Bangladesh posted a phenomenal target of 306 runs for the Aussies after they were asked to bat first by the Men in Yellow. The match is yet to be concluded and with Australia batting, the Men in Yellow have already chased 170+ runs in 28 overs. It will be interesting to see if the semi-final qualifiers will be able to manage the target to win their last match of the league stage. 

Well for the Bengal Tigers, no one except Towid Hridoy was able to cross the 70-run mark. Hridoy showcased his brilliancy while scoring 74 runs off 79 balls at a strike rate of 93.67. The second highest score came from Najmul Hossain Shanto who scored 45 runs off 57 deliveries. In reply, the Australian batsman yet again reckoned on their exceptional batting prowess with Mitchell Marsh having scored a masterful hundred off just 87 deliveries for the team. The second highest player stood David Warner after smashing 53 runs off 61 deliveries.

With a swashbuckling half century, David Warner lodged a significant milestone as he became the only 3rd opener to complete 18000 runs in International cricket. This edition of the World Cup has seen so many records being registered by several cricketers. Just a few days ago, the tournament saw a total of 500 sixes hit which is the highest in the history of the World Cup. 

The first opener to complete 18000 runs in international cricket is West Indies’ Chris Gayle who is one the cricketers who holds a handful of records having registered in his cricket career. The second opener to have achieved the record is Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya who has been exceptional in all terms for the team. 

Last match tomorrow

Tomorrow, the league stage of the ongoing World Cup will finally get concluded with India taking on Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Though, it will be treat for Indian fans to witness India play in its home soil on the prosperous occasion of Diwali.
